Yet another hard day at the office - again

0-6.

No matter how you look at it, we were absolutely thrashed. I take little solace that again, I prevented more goals from going in than scored against me (ahead by two in those stakes today) and that, goals aside, I didn't have that bad a game.

We dominated the first half, yet we were down 0-3 at the break. The first two were scored from impossible angles - the scorer on both occasions almost on the goal line. (The first was scored after I had deflected a long shot from going in. An opponent got to it first, and it went in off the far post.)

The third one came from bad marking. A cross went in, I anticipated the player who got the ball to shoot, but he passed instead to an open player, and he buried it. The fourth, well, okay, my fault. I should have stopped it. I was nutmegged. First time it has happened this season. (The defence though could shoulder some of the blame - he shouldn't had got a shot off.) Goal five, gees, long ball, player got it on halfway, was past the last defender, and I had to go out to meet him. Despite my run being spot on, he got past me, and had all the time in the world to walk it in. Number six, poor marking, an opponent got a free header. He struck it hard. I got a hand to it but couldn't stop it.

It could've been a lot worse than six. Again I was snatching balls from the feet of players, and was almost kicked in the head by one of my own team-mates. Another one on one situation ended in my favor, when I kicked the ball away from the attacker's feet. He tried on my right foot and went down.

I made nine clearance kicks in the match. All nine of them got to a blue shirt. My kicks were spot on. My frustration at the moment stems from the fact I could clearly see my team-mates moving sluggishly about the pitch, most of the time waiting for the ball to come to them rather than going to it. I saw opportunity after opportunity wasted down the other end. We had more corners than them. By my calculations, we had fourteen chances to score. None were taken. Our opponents had fourteen - six went in. No wonder they're leading the competition.

I couldn't really say anything after the match. What was there to say? "You guys let me down. If you guys aren't putting in the effort, why should I?" Naturally I kept it to myself.

Can't blame player shortage today. We had three subs.

Eight saves though takes my season tally up to fifty. I can't say I'm not making a contribution to this team.
